Second phase of Census from February 9

KOCHI: The second phase of Census 2011 will be held in the State from February 9 to 28 along with the rest of the country.
The population of the country will be calculated on the basis of the headcount as of the midnight of February 28 and March 1.
This phase will count the number of people living in the State, along with their 29 demographic characteristics such as age, marital status, gender, work and whether they belong to the Scheduled Classes and Tribes. The first round that took stock of the households was completed in April.
Rajeev A.N, Deputy Director of Census, Kerala, told The Hindu that some 66,000 enumerators, 12,000 supervisors and 1,700 master trainers would be deployed across the State to take the headcount. Each enumerator would take the headcount of 800 people in their assigned ‘block.'
They would be drawn from various government departments and quasi-government establishments. However, the largest chunk of them would be teachers.
The enumerators would be in the field from February 5 to March 5.

This time, the exact date of birth of the individuals, where available, will be recorded in addition to their ages. The migratory status of the individual, from village to city or the other way round, will also be noted. The mean age at marriage and the number of children per woman will be recorded too. Disability, literacy, highest education level, mother tongue are among other data to be collected.
